The Big Apple Circus was
founded in 1977 by Paul Binder and Michael Christensen. It was one
of the first intimate, 1-ring circuses set under a tent to be a
hit in the US. The Big Apple Circus has become a holiday tradition
in New York City
Grandma Goes Hollywood is the
28th production of the Big Apple Circus and celebrates the great
silver screen spectacles of Hollywood's golden years. Along with the antics of clown star Barry Lubin
as 'Grandma,' featured
acts include the 7-member Kovgar Troupe high above the circus
floor on the flying trapeze, along with featured performances by
Masha Garamov on the swinging trapeze; the Anhui Acrobatic
Troupe from China who specialize in combining foot juggling with
teeterboard acrobatics; and Sergie Akimov, who provides more
overhead excitement on the aerial straps
A circus is a light-hearted
event, but never more so when ventriloquist Willer Nicondi or
clowns Karen and Greg DeSanto are in the ring
Can't have a circus without animals
and the Big Apple variety include Yasmine Smart and her
Arabian stallions and the dogs trained by Olate Family. All
this plus a glorious assortment of supporting performers. It's all
hosted by emcee Kathy Halenda
