Has anybody spotted an apple as yet? If you
do, please let us know.
Haven't seen hide nor hair of any Fest information since
March 2005.
The Big Apple Fest debuted
in 2004. Hoping to make it an annual event they're going to do
it again in 2005 when again hundreds of fanciful Big
Apple sculptures, decorated by local and international
artists, will grow all around New York City. Proceeds benefit the
Police Athletic League and City Harvest, as well as the
non-profit work of NYC & Company
The oversized apples are four feet
tall and four feet in diameter. They are cast from acrylic,
allowing artists to create three-dimensional works inside or
decorate the exterior. Artists submit designs for the Big
Apples by June. Designs are reviewed by an artistic committee,
presented to sponsors for consideration, and move on to
construction and decoration in July
The apples are put in place and unveiled around the City during
the Labor Day weekend. They will stay on exhibit through
Halloween. Some details aren't in yet, but we know that in
September there will be a big kickoff party, and Big Apple Fest
Concert Series at B B Kings Blues Club. October will feature a
Big Apple Fest Family Day
After it's all done and the apples
have been rounded up, Sotheby's will hold a live auction of the Big
Apples in November, a portion of the proceeds will again benefit PAL,
City Harvest and the NYC & Company Foundation
