Registration for this event is limited, so if you want to
participate be sure to register early. The Five Borough
Bike Tour is the premiere bicycling event in New York City.
Start the morning at the Battery, tool up the middle of
Manhattan into the Bronx; roll down the East Side, cross over
the 59th Street Bridge and take a cycling tour of Astoria before
heading down through old Brooklyn; peer out at the harbor as you
coast across the Narrows and enter Ft Wadsworth on Staten
Island. Think of the route as a backwards New York City
Marathon, only longer. The after-tour festival at Ft Wadsworth
includes music, food, exhibits, a bit of pampering for you and
your bike and a blast from the past in a Spanish-American War
encampment The Bike New York folks
have organized the event so you just have to worry about
spinning along. There are five full-service rest areas along the
route with repair stations, medical assistance, reunion centers
and rest room facilities. Portable johns are scattered along the
route, ride marshals can help with just about any problem, and
of course, there are follow vehicles 'just in case' |
