Information New
York is Book Country
Wow! This
is a surprise, New York is Book Country 2005 is cancelled. What
once filled many blocks along and around 5th Avenue, then moved
down to a smaller space around Washington Square, is gone. Many,
many folks are going to miss this
New York is Book Country is
a collection of events and activities that celebrate the City as
the center of the country's publishing industry. The week-long festival
includes author appearances, panels, seminars, themed festival
days devoted to film and NYC books and authors, gala evenings and
receptions, exhibitions, activities for kids and much more
The festival highlight is the
New
York is Book Country Street Fair on Sunday. Stretching along
Washington Square South, the
street fair features, at last count, more than 100 exhibitors
including major publishing houses, cultural organizations,
specialized booksellers, periodicals, comics and illustrated
books. Many exhibitors are grouped by specialty or interest such
as African-American and Jewish books, Spanish-language books,
books for kids and our favorites, NYC and theater-related books.
As in past years a crowd favorite of the street fair is
Antiquarian Row, where you can bring the dusty tome found in the
attic for an expert appraisal
The festival includes a number of
author appearances and signings. There are too many for us to
count, but the list runs from from Mark St Amant to Paul Zelinksy,
with Jimmy Breslin and Jamie Lee Curtis in between
