Pack a picnic supper, a cool
beverage, get there early after a hard day at the office and be one
of the 100,000 or so people that enjoy each performance of the New
York Philharmonic Orchestras in one of New York City's parks. This
is a great event for families; even if younger kids doze off their
eyes will pop open when the fireworks start following each
performance. A
grand way to spend an evening in New York City
This year, between July 10th and
18th,
the show kicks off with the Brass Ensemble
from the New York Philharmonic out in Holmdel, NJ. On the following
days conductor Xian Zhang and the orchestra presents
Tchaikovsky's Coronation March and Dvorak's Symphony No 8,
as Jennifer Koh fiddles around with the Tchaikovsky Violin
Concerto
After swings through all five
boroughs the Philharmonic returns to Central Park for the
last night of the season. Marin Alsop conducts the orchestra in John
Adams The Chairman Dances; Leila Josefowicz performs
Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No 1; and the figurative curtain
comes down with Beethoven's Symphony No 5
