most of these properties were dark, seedy single-room-occupancy
hotels. But Clarion, like others, is now offering European-style
boutique accommodations in rather nice areas. The average-sized
rooms in this completely renovated hotel are kind of
traditional-American in style with basic amenities and offer
affordable comfort. This is a great choice if you don't need or want
anything fancy. Much quieter than Midtown, this north Gramercy
neighborhood is home to many chi-chi restaurants and nightspots and
near affordable  dining
and neighborhood fair along 3rd and Lexington Avenues. A
twenty-minute walk takes in a large swath of Midtown Manhattan, from
Washington Square and the East Village, to the Theater District and
far across town to the Javits Convention Center
