Says Are you going to the Rialto Theater after
promenading around Union Square? The Inn at Irving Place feels like
what was then uptown New York of 150 years ago. This is a very
small, very exclusive hotel, more a very upscale bed and breakfast
with expanded and deluxe service. If you take tea you get five
courses, antique china and a silver teapot in front of a gas
fireplace. If you would like to take breakfast in bed a butler will
serve it to you. Or, you can join the few other guests -- there are
only 12 rooms and suites -- in the exquisitely decorated
parlor. The rooms in this meticulously restored 1834 brownstone
landmark will set you back a few bucks as you settle back into the
comfort of luxurious linens, but you know you're being pampered.
That isn't Washington Irving outside, but then, in this charming
neighborhood you never know, you might be sitting next to Edith
Wharton
