Susie
Says The Fitzpatrick Grand is the younger sibling to the Fitzpatrick
Manhattan on 57th Street, the Fitzpatrick Family's first venture
into the New York City hotel market back in the late '80s. Their
brand of personal hotel service has been successful enough for them
to open another boutique hotel in the heart of Midtown Manhattan,
just down the street from Grand Central Terminal. As in the older
property, the staffs' warm, personable service fits the size of the
place -- only about 150 rooms and suites -- and really contributes
to the overall feel of the property. What we would have to call
Continental meets Irish country house furnishings and excellent
service make this and its sister hotel two of the most comfortable
finds in NYC. Standard rooms
are of average size for Manhattan, though light and airy; sitting
rooms in the suites are especially spacious and you just get a lot
of comfort for the buck. The Grand Central location is within
walking distance of most of Midtown, including all major business,
the Theater District, Rockefeller Center, St Patrick's Cathedral,
the United Nations and much more. The immediate neighborhood might
be a bit dreary at night but there are plenty of fine restaurants
within a couple of blocks and a slew of neighborhood spots along
1st, 2nd and 3rd Avenues in the east 40s
