Says A couple of years ago we said, "Leona hasn't
been here lately. The woman who made her advertising name as a
nitpicker -- and proud of it -- apparently hasn't stopped into this
property that is in need of a good dusting and fresh coat of
paint." We haven't had a chance to stop back and see if it has
changed, but we also haven't heard or read anything to that effect.
If you get a good rate here there are two things to keep in mind:
Though a bit dowdy the rooms are very comfortably furnished and
clean, its the public areas that aren't quite up to snuff; and it's
definitely worth it if for nothing else its excellent Midtown
Manhattan location. The Helmsley Middletowne Hotel is within walking
distance of most major Midtown  Manhattan
businesses; just a few short blocks from the heart of the Theater
District; a hop and a skip to Rockefeller Center, St Patrick's
Cathedral and 5th Avenue shopping; and a few short blocks to the
United Nations. The one things that is up to the standards of other
Helmsley properties is that the service is as good as you would
expect from the woman who "runs a helluva hotel." If
"location, Location, Location" are the three things you
need to be successful in the hotel business, the Middletowne's got 'em
