Says Can you have a bed and breakfast across from the
Waldorf-Astoria? Roger Smith's 'creative strategist' James Knowles
thinks you can. This is quite large for a B&B, so we'd rather
call it a Euro-style boutique hotel. Knowles calls it "a
thinking man's hotel that evolves as a work in progress." Hmmm.
Call it what you will, this refurbished 1929 hotel, which uses the
slogan "Positive, Open, Friendly," delivers
eclectically-designed contemporary American accommodations amid the
skyscraper-hustle of Midtown. Standard rooms are not huge, but
comfortable; all suites are corner units, some suites -- those in
the '11' line-have a small terrace. The hotel's location in the
heart of Midtown would suggest that it caters to business
traveler's; surprisingly, it is most popular with foreign tour
groups, adding a bit more cosmo-flavor to cosmopolitan NYC
