Says The San Carlos has been around for about 70 years.
Like anything else that's been around that long it becomes
invisible. Imagine our surprise last year when, walking along, we
discovered something 'new.' Well, not really new, but the San Carlos
with a new face. Lobby and room renovations have completely
revitalized this little gem. The rooms are small -- actually, to a
New Yorker's eye they seem spacious -- and are very
comfortably furnished in, what the heck, let's call it 'contemporary
traditional' for want of better words. The designers used that ever
so popular earth tone palette and it works very well in this case.
Couldn't tell if the bathroom counters were marble or faux marble
but either way are quite handsome. The well-equipped kitchenette is
almost as large as our kitchen (again, New York standards) and there
are plenty of markets close by on 2nd Avenue to pick up a few things
to munch on. The hotel's staff is friendly and thoroughly
professional. Very convenient to Midtown, the best feature of the
San Carlos' location is it's mostly residential Turtle Bay
neighborhood, with many great neighborhood shops and restaurants
