What Susie says about the Belvedere, a New York City hotelSusie Says  "This truly has been elegantly renovated," says a pleasantly surprised Susie. The Belvedere Hotel's New York Art-Deco lobby has been restored to its former stylish sophistication. While you might not be, as the folks who wrote the promotional copy say, "instantly in awe of the ambiance," you will be suitably impressed with the expanse of polished marble that welcomes you to the hotel. The rooms, while not as stylish, offer very comfortable accommodations. They are styled in a harmless, kind of traditional decor with a very neutral -- can't even call it earth-tone -- palette. The pleasant surprise is that by Manhattan standards they are quite spacious, light and airy. And they are kept spotlessly clean. All rooms and suites include a kitchenette with refrigerator, microwave oven and coffee maker. This comes in very handy and there are Photo of Belvedere New York City hotel guest roomnumerous place nearby to pick up a couple of bagels to go with morning coffee or sandwich fixings to have on hand for a snack. Bathrooms, though nicely appointed, are on the small side. The Belvedere is a block or so away from Times Square but this is still the heart of Midtown and street noise can be, well, quite noisy at times; to be safe it's probably best to ask for a room on an upper floor (though if you're not used to city noise it will still be distracting). Another city "problem" that comes up is that rooms can be overheated during winter. This is just a fact of life when it comes to older, steam-heated New York City buildings. You can do what the folks who live here do and simply open the windows, or call down to the desk and have somebody come up to adjust the temperature. The staff is more than helpful and the folks we've spoken with have answered all of our questions in the classic hotel professional yet friendly manner

The Belvedere is just steps away from Broadway theaters and 46th Street's  Restaurant Row. The newly vibrant stretch of 9th Avenue just up the street offers a wide variety of neighborhood eateries, taverns and pubs. You can walk to Times Square, Rockefeller Center, St Patrick's Cathedral and the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum from this 1926-era hotel. Nearby subway and bus will quickly whisk you to anywhere else in the City
