Says I once said that I "think the Quality Inn Times Square hotel is a
great Manhattan buy. It's a good hotel with rooms large enough for
families, close to Midtown attractions for sightseeing and
convenient to major corporations for the business traveler."
Well, things change quickly in NYC and I'm not sure if this is still
true. Due to the downturn in tourism over the past few years many
New York hotels had problems, especially those not backed by big
buck corporations. Staff was let go, some general maintenance was
put off; whatever had to be done to get through the times was done.
Most of the affected properties I've visited over the past couple of
months seem to have gotten that behind them and were again busy
providing good service and spiffing up their places for guests. But
apparently not the Quality Times Square
I've heard and seen a disturbing
number of negative comments about the hotel over the past few
months. When I tried to poke my head in during February 2004 I was
brusquely turned away. (Maybe they're starting to see through my
"I'd like to see a room for my sister and her family"
routine?) The lobby area didn't look too bad on this visit but I
wasn't able to see any other parts of the hotel
So,
I can't recommend this hotel until I'm able to get back and see a
couple of rooms. Notes from older visits show a kind of traditional American decor in the lobby
that is carried throughout the hotel's rooms. Standard rooms are a touch on the cozy
side (very small), not untypical for
Manhattan. Junior suites were a good deal, spacious enough for
business meetings, entertaining or a family's relaxing
The big plus for any Broadway
Theater District hotel is the location. The half-price TKTS booth
is a half a block away, the lights of Times Square are all around.
It's just a short stroll to Radio City Music Hall, 5th Avenue
Shopping, Rockefeller Center, St Patrick's Cathedral -- you get the
idea. And there are nearby subway and bus connections to anyplace
else in town
