What Susie says about the Best Western President, a New York City hotelSusie Says  A touch more class and a bit more service than many of the other moderately-priced Theater District hotels, the President Hotel is another recently-renovated entry on the Manhattan scene. We think this is one of the nicer hotel facelifts we've seen -- this is not a trendy Euro-style hotel, but traditional New York, updated with plenty of marble in the lobby and very comfortable, mid-scale hotel furnishings in the rooms. As usual, rooms and baths and even corridors are smaller than their suburban cousins. Surprisingly quiet for the location the rooms also spic and span spotless. Decor in standard Photo of Best Western President New York City hotel guest roomrooms is the usual uninspiring "hotel modern." The one surprise I had was when I went to sit on a bed to tie my shoe and sunk down much further than expected. Some might consider it comfy, I like my mattresses a bit firmer. Penthouse suites have had a complete facelift and are for want of better words done in "retro-modern" with a very light and airy palette (Though I wouldn't recommend staying in a suite here. We like it for the sometimes good rates and great location, not for spending a few hundred bucks a night for a suite).

We've heard and read a few comments about the level of service being a bit spotty. We've never encountered that when we've stopped by but, as much of the staff are not professionally trained hoteliers, we wouldn't be much surprised. If you happen to get a good rate you might want to overlook some New York attitude and just take advantage of the hotel's location, it's strongest selling point

No Broadway theater is more than about a seven-minute walk from the hotel, making it perfect for folks in town for a weekend of musicals and drama or the traveler that wants to combine business and pleasure. Times Square is about as close as can be without being in it. The President is convenient to all sights and attractions in Midtown; on a pleasant day you can walk south to the Empire State Building or north to Central Park, with Herald Square shopping, Rockefeller Center, St Patrick's Cathedral and the Museum of Modern Art in between. And it's less than a 20-block walk uptown on Broadway to Lincoln Center. Nearby subway and bus will quickly take you to all other areas of the city
