What Susie says about the Travel Inn, a New York City hotelSusie Says This New York hotel is only a short 3-block walk north of Jacob Javits Convention Center so many of its guests are convention goers in search of convenient and affordable accommodations. But the hotel does offer excellent value for the pleasure traveler and, though not in the heart of the Broadway theater district, still close enough for me to call it a good value

This is one of the more unusual Manhattan hotels as it looks more like a motel and its the only place we know of in this neck of the woods that offers free parking -- free! -- with no in-and-out charges. And it has a real-life outdoor swimming pool! Keeping with the theme rooms are very motel-like, good sized, clean and airy. And let's call the decor "motel-contemporary." What else would one expect in a place like this. Nothing exceptional, no surprises. I would like to say that the staff is exceptional, but can't. The folks I spoke with were mostly friendly and tried to be helpful but at times it seemed an imposition. They don't claim five-star service and at these rates you can't expect it

The hotel is on the outskirts of Midtown Manhattan and not as convenient to everything you might like to as other hotels. Circle Line sightseeing cruises and the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum are just a couple of blocks west, a very short stroll. You can walk to the Theater District and Times Square and along the way stop for a bite to eat at one of the many neighborhood spots along a newly vibrant 9th Avenue. Longer strolls will take you up to Rockefeller Center and 5th Avenue shopping or down to Macy's and Herald Square. The 42nd Street bus is very dependable and will quickly take you across town to the Grand Central Terminal, the United Nations and other East Side locations
