What Susie says about the Elysee New York City hotelSusie Says  We have seen the Hotel Elysee billed in some places as a bed and breakfast. Well, you get a bed and you do get breakfast, but at about 100 guest rooms and suites this is not some small pension tucked away on a side street in Paris. This has more the fell of a luxury European country inn, albeit tucked away on a sidestreet in Midtown Manhattan. And don't confuse the Elysee with other new-fangled Euro-style boutique hotels that have popped up in New York over the past few years. Built in 1926, the Hotel Elysee's charm, style and service have outlasted all imitators. In its past heyday it was home to guests pining for a bit of privacy, folks along the lines of Tennessee Williams, Ava Gardner, Joe Dimaggio, Vladimir Horowitz, Marlon Brando, the Gish Sisters Annabeth and Lillian, Dame Margot Fontayn, Harold Robbins and others. The new heyday started back in the early '90s after an extensive renovation and restoration project. The building is great, the staff is personable and professional. They've done a real nice job. When you get tired of the tranquil setting of the hotel, step into the original Monkey Bar where the next generation of NYC wheeler-dealers slake their thirsts. As you'll see, this is not some quiet little pension...
