What Susie says about the Fitzpatrick Manhattan, a New York City HotelSusie Says When the Fitzpatrick Family brought their brand of personal hotel service to New York just over a decade ago their first Manhattan hotel was the only fresh-faced boutique hotel in the City. They arrived just before the resurgence of tourism in the early '90s and set a standard for Euro-style hotels to follow. The Fitzpatrick Manhattan is not a large hotel, about 40 rooms and 50 suites. The staffs' warm, personable service fits the size of the place and really contributes to the overall feel of the property. What we would have to call Continental meets Irish country house furnishings and excellent service make this and its sister hotel, the Fitzpatrick Grand Central Hotel, two of the most comfortable finds in NYC. Rooms are light and airy; sitting rooms in the suites are especially spacious and you just get a lot of comfort for the buck. The hotel has an "annex" two blocks away at 127 E 55th Street, between Lexington and Park Avenues. While we haven't as yet seen any of the rooms at this location, the building itself is gleaming copper-colored glass, built in 1985 as the Viscount Hotel, so the rooms should be quite a bit more modern than in the main hotel building which is a bit older. The location is convenient to 57th Street, 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue shopping; is good as a jumping off point for Museum Mile browsing and a short cab ride or not bad stroll from the Theater District. Though not much happens in the immediate neighborhood at night there are plenty of fine restaurants along Madison Avenue north of 59th Street and a slew of neighborhood spots along 1st, 2nd and 3rd Avenues in the east 50s. You don't really have to go far for dining and entertainment, the hotel's Fitzers Restaurant has pretty good food and a lively Irish bar scene
