What Susie says about the Habitat, a New York City hotelSusie Says  Formerly the Habitat Hotel, a property we thought was the wrong neighborhood because of its cheap rate, the newly renamed Hotel 57 is starting to live up to its great location. Yep, rates have dramatically increased -- rooms no longer start at under a hundred bucks a night -- but the current reinvention is a far cry from just spiffing up the space. The folks who run the place have opted for a total upgrade, bringing the not badly sized rooms into the 21st century with a, well, let's call it stylishly modern hotel decor. The renovation is scheduled to last through Fall 2005, so some features and Photo of Habitat New York City hotel guest roomamenities are not yet in place. We feel that there is a lot more to come. Everything is fresh and clean, and the staff folks we spoke with were very pleasant, friendly, informative and helpful. If you're a shop 'til your drop type of person you'll love the hotel's location. Bloomingdale's and the other retail shops surrounding it are only two blocks away; the famed boutiques along 57th Street are almost in your front yard; and the even more chi chi shops on Madison Avenue are within shouting distance. Plus, you're within walking distance of most of the major sites and attractions in Midtown Manhattan. Especially convenient are Rockefeller Center, St Patrick's Cathedral. Carnegie Hall and Central Park are short strolls away; the Theater District and Museum Mile are short cab rides or a nice walk on younger legs

Rates  $179.95 to $629.95
