Says The Lombardy is a co-op building in which owners
make their units available for hotel use. Built by William Randolph
Hearst in 1926, the Lombardy's common areas still exhibit many of
his extravagances. From the manager to the elevator operator, all on
the very attentive staff -- many who have been there for over 15
years -- serve guests in a quiet and friendly manner. The large
rooms are elegantly and comfortably appointed, each in a different
style, reflecting the owner's taste. Compared to other hotels of
this class the price really isn't bad -- it seems like you get a bit
more than you pay for. The old-fashioned services even include a
seamstress. That's good living. Oh, by the way, the Lombardy is
within walking distance of shopping on Madison and 5th Avenues and
short cab rides to the Theater District, Lincoln Center and Museum
