Everything
about New York City's Plaza hotel says class. Since it opened its
doors in 1907 the Plaza has always been the premier choice of
knowledgeable travelers. The Plaza was built with all the pomp,
glory, and opulence of a French chateau. Exquisitely decorated
everywhere you turn you see pristine elegance and beauty, the rich
detailing and the spectacular presence that are The Plaza's
birthright. The hotel has a variety of meeting rooms with a choice
of capacities to suit varying requirements. The Plaza's four
restaurants are built to cater to the different tastes and moods of
their sophisticated clientele. The hotel also comes equipped with
top of the line security and located on the premises are an Art
Gallery, a barber shop, Oscar Blandi Salon, Neuchatel Chocolates,
Maurice florist, Roxanne jewelers, Napolean Mens Shop, The Plaza
Spa, a gift shop and newsstand featuring periodicals from all over
the world. All guestrooms feature original chandeliers, custom
Frette bed and bath linens, private bars, cable and pay-per-view,
safes in each room, two-line phones in all rooms, phones in
bathrooms, hair dryers, make-up mirrors and heated bath towels in
suites. Home to such classic movies as By Right Of Purchase, No
Limit, Breakfast at Tiffany's, The Way We Were, North By Northwest,
Annie and too many more too mention. The Plaza hotel has also
been the Manhattan home to architect Frank Lloyd Wright, author F
Scott Fitzgerald and numerous kings, presidents, ambassadors, stars
of stage, screen and sports as well as business executives and
travelers from all parts of the world. The pampering and
sophistication never stop at The Plaza Hotel
Well, some pampering and some
sophistication will stop with the end of an era. As reported by the
New York Post
on December 2, 2004, restaurant One cps will close by January 1st,
with the fabled Oak Room and Oyster Bar closing by January 31st.
After the sale of the property in August 2004, it was strongly
rumored that the new owner, Elad Properties, was going to convert
the entire building to condominiums. It now appears that only units
in the upper floors will be converted, the rest to operate as usual.
The only good news is that the Oak Bar will continue to pour great
martini's
