Says The Franklin Hotel, a New York art-deco gem, provides small
but comfortably-furnished rooms within walking distance of 5th
Avenue's Museum Mile. A true Euro-style boutique hotel, The Franklin
doesn't offer opulence but a quiet retreat after a day's roaming the
Metropolitan, Whitney, Jewish or Frick Museums. The rooms are quite
small, cozy if you will, the norm for older NYC buildings (you can
get a taste of how us New Yorkers actually live). The folks who
redesigned the rooms did the most with what they had, using light,
airy colors to make the space seem more open. A draped canopy over
the bed -- a very simple idea, really -- adds a touch of charm in
what could otherwise be a very plain room. Room furnishings are very
comfortable, the sleek Art-Deco that is carried throughout the
hotel. The staff, as should be in a hotel of this caliber, is very
professional and delivers  quality
service in a friendly, courteous manner. The little extras are what
sets the Franklin apart: a complimentary drink at arrival, 24-hour
complimentary coffee service, complimentary bottled water and
quality linens in the guest rooms. The hotel is best suited for a
couple planning to do Manhattan's Museum Mile; families might find
it a bit cramped. Nearby subway can get you any place else in New
York City very quickly. There are many options for dining and
entertainment in the neighborhood, in all price ranges. All-in-all,
the Franklin is a great place to stay on Manhattan's Upper East Side
