Avalon
Hotel
Midtown South | Very Expensive
This is a "Great find!" One of the
Phoenixes rising from the ashes of older New York City hotels, the
newly-renovated, completely redesigned Avalon welcomes visitors with
an impressive marble-columned, wood-accented lobby. The warm,
helpful staff invites you to enjoy afternoon tea in the gracious
library just off the lobby...
Bentley
Hotel
Upper East Side | Expensive
We didn't know that the Bentley existed
until we started doing research for Jim's Deli, the New York City
Guide. It's a very pleasant surprise. Stylishly modern rooms have
marble baths and expansive views of the 59th Street Bridge; though
small -- as many hotel rooms in NYC are -- they are very
comfortable...
Holiday
Inn Martinique Hotel
Midtown South | Very Expensive
"We must be in the wrong place,"
was Susie's first thought as she entered the renovated Holiday Inn
Martinique. Expecting a rejuvenated former down-at-the-heels-type

property was lovingly refurbished...
Pickwick
Arms Hotel
Midtown East | Expensive
Wow, an affordable hotel close to Midtown that's
a place you would actually hang your hat. The Pickwick Arms has been
a favorite of budget-minded travelers for years. A recent renovation
has upgraded the hotel to give guests more comfortable
accommodations...

Wales Hotel
Upper East Side | Very Expensive
'Ahhhhh!' Lots of woodwork, very well
maintained, in the heart of the Upper East Side's Museum Mile in the
Carnegie Hill Historic District. Understated New York elegance sets
the tone throughout the hotel. Comfortably-furnished rooms are quite
small -- Susie says she can sit on the edge of the bed and change
channels on the TV with her nose -- but she doesn't mind, its too
comfortable to care...
