Says The 'Railroad Y,' so called because it was built
by Commodore Vanderbilt, owner of the New York Central Railroad and
builder of Grand Central Terminal, is one of the best buys in NYC.
The small rooms are very clean, the staff is great and the
International Cafe serves a variety of pretty good food at decent
prices. The great Turtle Bay location offers a host of neighborhood
shops, restaurants, bars and pubs. This is a very popular spot for
travelers and attracts a variety of people from all over the globe.
It's just down the street from the United Nations which adds a bit
more to the international flavor of the neighborhood. We can
heartily recommend the Vanderbilt because this is the Y we belong to
-- you might run into us on the treadmill or in the sauna! And when
we say it's within walking distance of anything you would like to do
in Midtown Manhattan we mean it. We consider just about anywhere
between 14th and 65th Streets a very easy stroll, young legs can
range farther. And more than convenient bus and subway service will
take you anyplace else in the City in a matter of minutes
