Highlights

The Staten Island Children's Museum
is all about hands-on experiences for kids. All the usual arts,
crafts, stories and sing-a-longs; plus the Museum has small animals,
fish, birds and some creepy crawlies for the kids to help feed
The exhibit section is full of things
to do. In The Big Game kids can play chess with pieces a big
as they are. Ladder 11 helps them learn how to hook up pieces
of equipment as they experience being firefighters. We mentioned
live creepy crawlies above, but in Bugs and Other Insects
kids can become one or even invent their own. They can don hard hats
and learn how construction tools are used in House About It
And, as it's located in Snug Harbor,
the Museum has boats. The an indoor pretend pirate ship in Block
Harbor and the outdoor Sea of Boats for more exploration
and fun
All that and even Portia's
Playhouse, a fully equipped kids performance theater with
everything needed for the ultimate in make-believe
The Museum also has a variety of
public programs, syllabi for class trips and will even host your
child's birthday party
Things change quickly in NYC. Be sure to contact the museum or society for changes to schedules, admission fees, restrictions on children, strollers, backpacks, etc.
