The City starts to heat up in June and nothing does more cookin' than the JVC Jazz Festival. The best of jazz in all of its flavors features artists from all of jazzes many genres. And there's no excuse not to hear some good sounds--some of the events are free

Carnegie Hall plays host to such virtuosos as Ornett Coleman, Chris Botti, Lizz Wright, The Bad Plus, Roy Hargrove Quintet, Bobby Hutcherson, Paul Motion trio 2000 + One, Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Joe Lovano, Dr Michael White's Original Liberty Jazz Band, Etta James, Susan Tedeschi, Dave Brubeck and Smokey Robinson

You can catch Hank Jones, Houston Person Quartet, Eric Alexander Quartet, Harry Allen, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Hiromi & Tomoko Ohno, Frank Wess, Ken Peplowski, Don Byron, Kenny Davern, Evan Christopher, Vince Giordano's Nighthawks, Dan Levinson's Roff Garden Jass Band, Bryan Wright, Nancy Anderson, Andy Stein Blue Five, Kermit Ruffins, Marion Jordan, Christian Scott, James Andrews, as well as Bucky Pizzarelli's 80th Birthday Celebration at the Kaye Playhouse

Irving Plaza has sets featuring Avishai Cohen Trio, Groove Collection, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, Marcus Miller Band, Roy Hargrove's RH Factor, Bad Plus and Gold Sound

Makor features a "Jazz on Film" series; Jazz Standard is concentrating on the sounds of Brazil; St Peter's Church has a couple of free gigs; and the Prospect Park Bandshell hosts Savion Glover, Robert Glaspar Trio
