The New York Jets started
playing football in NYC's Polo Grounds as the hapless New York
Titans. The team called their colors blue and gold; most fans
thought of them as the 'Purple People Eaters' after the '50s
novelty song hit. After a change of ownership, name, stadium and
team colors the Jets stumbled along until their -- still -- only
claim to fame: the 1969 super Bowl win over the Baltimore Colts
behind the arm and braggadocio of quarterback Joe Namath.
Sometimes brilliant but still stumbling the Jets always seem to
manage to shoot themselves in the foot. And though they still use
'New York' in the name, the teams plays home games at Giants
Stadium in New Jersey's Meadowlands
