The New York Knicks started
playing basketball in NYC as part of the Basketball Association of
America in 1946. Though moderately successful, the team has never
been dominant, except for a stretch in the late 60s and early
1970s during which they won two championships due to the play of
such stars as Willis Reed, Walt Frazier and Dave DeBusschere.
Mired in some form of controversy or another for most of the 80s
and 90s -- a New York sports staple -- the Knicks tried to power
their way back to the big game on the shoulders of Patrick Ewing,
only to find that it takes more than one player to win. The teams
last trip to the finals -- unsuccessful -- was the 1998-1999
season
