The New York Liberty started
playing basketball in NYC in 1997 as a charter franchise of the
WNBA. The team has been a consistent contender, going on to four
championship series. They've left as bride's maids each time,
losing to the Houston Comets in 1997, 1999 & 2001, and the Los
Angeles Sparks in 2002. The Liberty have only missed the playoffs
four times in its
13 seasons, advancing to the Eastern Conference
