The New York Rangers have
been playing hockey in New York City since the 1926-1927 season.
The team was a powerhouse early on, winning the Stanley Cup in the
1927-1928, 1932-1933 and 1939-1940 seasons, but languished after
in the years following World War II. After a more than 50-year
drought the Rangers again won the Stanley Cup in the 1933-1994
season. The latter half of the 90s saw another dive with a string
of seven not better than fourth- place finishes through the
2002-2003 season
