Synopsis The epic Victor
Hugo novel of the French revolution is distilled to just under three
hours of musical theater; we'll knock it down to three sentences.
Jean Valjean, the petty thief, has broken his parole and become
successful as a factory owner and mayor of a small town is
rediscovered by Javert, the policeman who has been on his trail.
Valjean eludes Javert and continues his search, ultimately
successful, for Cosette, the orphaned daughter of a friend. The
story wends its way through and around the Paris barricades, ending
in tragedy for most, suicide for Javert, an old man's death for
Valjean and love for Cossette
Notes On January 25,
2002, Les Mis became the second longest running show in
Broadway history with 6,138 performances over a 14-year run. Cats,
over its legendary 18 years on Broadway, holds the record with 7,485
performances A Bit of Trivia
In 2000, the running time of the show was cut 12 minutes in order to
save thousands of dollars in weekly overtime costs Tony Award®, Tony®, the Tony Award® logo, and
