Creative Stephen Sondheim music & lyrics | Eric D Shaeffer director

Cast Carol Burnett | Ruthie Henshall | George Hearn | John Barrowman | Bronson Pinchot | Kathie Lee Gifford performs in place of Carol Burnett on most Tuesday eves

Review  One of the great tales of Broadway is the line Carol Burnett wrote to a friend, "I got my first leading role on Broadway in a show called The Princess And The Pea. I'm not the pea!" Lovely Ms Burnett and the rest of the talented cast should hide under a mattress during the run of Putting It Together
The revue loosely weaves Stephen Sondheim songs from many shows to highlight the undercurrents at a cocktail party. None of the songs moves the plot. None of the songs belongs to the characters. Mr Sondheim's music belongs in edgier, more sinister shows. Ms Burnett is too warm, Ms Henshall too perky, Mr Hearn too sophisticated, Mr Pinchot too, well, Mr Pinchot, to successfully carry, in this context, most Sondheim songs with any believability. The mis-cast cast was dealt a losing hand
Bottom Line  Ms Burnett's name will carry the show for awhile. A spring opening would have tourists flocking to the box office during the summer months; when the winter doldrums set in Putting It Together is out
