Review  The dashing ride down Mt Morgan in an out of control Porsche lands Lyman, a hungry for life executive in a hospital. As he awakes, his two wives are at his bedside

Arthur Miller is a master of the psychological morality play and, like many of his others, this one leaves us a bit confused as to what is the moral tale. Does Lyman, played by Patrick Stewart, feel guilt over the discovery of his second lives? Or is Lyman only sorry not to have divorced his first wife? Or does he just not give a damn? For the Miller uninitiated, like us, it's a bit hard to find the answer, especially within the animal laden flashbacks -- too far reaching symbolism for us

Mr Stewart gives an enlivened performance; his Yul Brynner pate is covered by a platinum tinged hairpiece which seems to imbue him with vitality. (We only know him from his television turns as Captain Picard on Star Trek and the scenery chewing Ahab in Moby Dick.) The supporting actors, principally Frances Conroy as Lyman's first wife Theo and Katy Selverstone as the younger Leah, give solid performances. That there roles are relegated to an almost Greek chorus is the choice of director David Esbjornson who opted to make Mr Stewart the focus of the show

Bottom Line If you're a Miller fan you'll understand it; otherwise see it for Patrick Stewart
