What is it? Revue? Theater? Performance? Musical? With vocals, unique props, wind synthesizers, world percussion sounds and today's must have puppets, Squonk is an eclectic show that, depending on your center, either elates or deflates. The show seems curiously deflated after it's move uptown from Performance Space 122 in the East Village. Much performance art, for Squonk is more an artistic theory of a show than a true show, depends on the intimacy and immediacy of a small audience that either knows what it is going to experience or is open to surprises. Out-of-town theater goers who might search out a Blue Man Group will not watch the same offering on Broadway, neither will locals. At a time when theater availability is tight and openings have been rescheduled weekly, Squonk is a small show is too big a space
