Synopsis  It's 1929 Tampa (more probably Ybor City), where cigar factories employ legions of Cuban immigrants to hand roll the aromatic product. In order to relieve the tedium a lector de tabaqueria was employed to read from the daily newspapers, books and plays (We found a very good treatment of the subject at PipesandCigars.com). Anna in the Tropics concerns one such lector who, as he reads Anna Karenina, "unwittingly becomes a catalyst in the lives of his avid listeners"

Notes Anna in the Tropics was awarded the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for drama
