Synopsis Audrey II is back,
this time on the big boards. "Feed me, Seymour. Feed me."
So, what does Seymour fee this hungry plant from outer space? Blood,
of course, his own very fresh blood. And this sets the stage for how
the search for food for an increasingly hungry, fast growing plant
spur Seymour's attempts to wrest his true love's attentions from a
sadistic dentist
TheaterScene Review
The mutating carnivorous plant that is
the center piece of "Little Shop of Horrors" has taken
root on Broadway. The musical version of schlock horror film-maker
Roger Corman's comically tacky 1960 film is, under Jerry Zaks'
exuberant direction, an unexpected delight...

Notes Yep, you're right. Audrey II was
supposed to hit Broadway in July, in time for an August 14th
opening. As often happens on the road some changes have been made
that pushed back the schedule. Original director Connie Grappo, who
helmed the show during much of its out-of-town run was replaced by
vet Jerry Zaks. Of the original cast slated to move with the show to
New York only Hunter Foster survived the cut
The original
off-Broadway run debuted July 27, 1982, at the Orpheum Theater and
ran for a phenomenal 2,209 performances. The show starred Rick
Moranis and Ellen Greene and was directed by wordsmith Ashman.
Moranis and Greene reprised their roles in the 1986 film, joined by
Steve Martin, James Belushi, John Candy and others. The whole
shebang is based on the 1960 Roger Corman film penned by
Charles Griffith. This non-musical original "starred"
Jonathan Haze and Jackie Joseph as Seymour and Audrey and, in his
second credited film role, Jack Nicholson as Wilbur Force ("No
Novocain, it dulls the senses!")
