Synopsis A Raisin in
the Sun is the powerful story of a mid-century African-American
family striving to fulfill each member's dreams: a home of one's
own, a return to dignity, and a chance at a future
TheaterScene Review
This play is timeless because it says
that people need to dream. For that reason alone it will never go
out of style....

Notes This is the first revival of the Broadway
classic. It was to star Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett,
directed by Marion McClinton. Now P Diddy steps in, Mr Leon helms and
Audra McDonald is next in line for Ruby Dee's shoes
A Raisin in the Sun premiered March 11, 1959 at the
Ethel Barrymore Theater
and ran for 530 performances, closing at the Belasco Theater on June
25, 1960. Sidney Poitier and Ruby Dee starred. A young Diana Sands
and even younger Louis Gossett Jr also appeared. The musical version of the show, Raisin,
bowed at the 46th Street Theater October 18, 1973 and closed at the
Lunt-Fontanne Theater after 847 performances. Deborah Allen and Joe
Morton starred
