Notes According to the
Internet Broadway
Database, the first known performance of Julius Caesar
was in 1794 at the John Street Theater. Producing partners Lewis
Hallam and John Hodgkinson were joined on the stage by Mrs Charlotte
Melmoth and a gentleman known only as Mr Richards. The play has been
revived on Broadway 18 times, most recently in a short,
31-performance run at the Arena Theater in 1950. The production
starred Horace Braham as Caesar, Tony Dowling as Brutus and Basil
Rathbone as Cassius
