Synopsis A young couple, Corrie and Paul Bratter, move into their first Manhattan apartment, a five-flight walkup. The very romantic start to their life together is given a bit of a shake-up as the conservative young lawyer and vivacious wife work through intrusions by her mother and their introduction to Mr Belasco, the eccentric upstairs neighbor

Notes This is the first revival of Simon's third Broadway show (following Come Blow Your Horn and Little Me), joining two other Simon revivals, Sweet Charity and The Odd Couple, that are on the boards this season

Starring Elizabeth Ashley and Robert Redford (her second Broadway role, his last), Barefoot opened at the Biltmore Theater on October 23, 1963, after only two previews, and went on to a 1,530-performance run. The production, Ms Ashley and director Mike Nichols were nominated for 1964 Tony Awards®, with Mr Nichols bringing home the hardware

The 1967 film version directed by Gene Saks also starred Mr Redford, this time with Jane Fonda as his wife, Corrie. The great Mildred Natwick played the Mom and a charming Charles Boyer filled the charming shoes of Victor Velasco
