Synopsis

At a family reunion to celebrate the 60th birthday of Helge Klingenfelt, one son decides that the family secret just must be discussed. We won't give away much of the plot. Though the secret is shocking, it's a bit overused of late, a plot line seen on Law and Order SVU at least once a season; the family's reaction spawns the play's energy

The Road to Broadway

Festen, or The Celebration, is a stage adaptation of a 1998 film by Thomas Vinterberg of the Danish group  Dogme 95, whose projects must adhere to a certain set of principles, mostly the foreswearing of technology to control aesthetic aspects of the film, in order to be certified. Adapted for the stage by Mr Eldrdige, it was first reported to be heading to New York for a Spring 2005 bow after a seven-month run at London's Lyric Theatre. The creative folks from the London production are the same involved in the Broadway run
