There's been one or another show based on John
Lennon and his music floating around over the past few years, many
with Broadway aspirations. Don Scardino has been developing his Lennon
Project, in which ten of actors portray the
Beatles' front man, and this is the one that's going to get the shot
Quoted in the show's press
announcement, Yoko Ono says, "Over the past two decades, I have been
experiencing the world's feedback to John's life, statements and
music,” said Yoko Ono. “I've realized what John meant to the world.
He was a catalyst who brought down the hypocrisy and the
Establishment by saying ‘Gimme Some Truth.' What we present on stage
should again give people insight, encouragement, inspiration and
fun, so they can go on with their lives with some assurance and
hope”
Producer Allan McKeown continues, “In
Lennon, we will tell the story of an era - an entire
generation. Through his music, Lennon's voice emerges as one of the
most unique of our time"
We've been watching this show since
November 2003, and finally, in June 2004, Mr Scardino told
CBS
News that the show, newly titled simply Lennon, was headed
for Broadway sometime in the 2005 season. It will make it to New
York after a run at San Francisco's
Orpheum
Theater and the
Colonial
Theater in Boston
