Synopsis

It should be easy for two young, attractive and witty folks to fall in love, but with Sid Sorokin and Babe Williams are on opposite sides of labor negotiations at the Sleep Tite Pajama Factory, romance sometimes goes awry

Broadway Show History

The Pajama Game premiered on Broadway May 13, 1954, at the St James Theater. It played for what was at the time a phenomenal 1,063 performances, ending its run at the Shubert Theater in November, 1956. The production was co-directed by co-legends George Abbott and Jerome Robbins, with movement choreographed by a young Bob Fosse. John Raitt and Janis Paige headed the cast. The production won the 1955 Tony Award® for best musical; Carol Haney took home the hardware as best featured actress, as did Mr Fosse in his first time out as a choreographer. Also on the boards were Shirley MacLane in her second Broadway appearance, and Peter Gennaro, making his third

A short-lived revival, again directed by Mr Abbott, was staged at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater starting in December 1973. Barbara McNair played opposite Hal Linden, sharing the stage with Cab Calloway and Chris Calloway
