Synopsis
It's hot, dusty hot. Droughts of the
1930s hot. One hundred ten degrees in the shade hot
Fourth of July hot. Smart,
straightforward Lizzie Curry should have been married by now. She
isn't because, well, she's smart and straightforward and wants her
man to be the same. She lets her father and brothers convince her to
allow herself to be "set up" with Sheriff File at the town picnic
He doesn't show. But Starbuck does.
The stranger promises to make it rain within 24 hours for the price
of a Benjamin

110 in the Shade is N Richard
Nash's adaptation of his play The Rainmaker. Joseph Anthony
directed Geraldine Page as Lizzie and Darren McGavin as Starbuck in
the production that opened October 28, 1954 at the
Cort Theater
Nine years later Mr Anthony directed
the musical version. Opening October 24, 1963 at the Broadhurst
Theater, the production ran for 330 performances. Inga Swenson
(Lizzie), Robert Horton (Starbuck), and Stephen Douglas (File) led
the cast, with Will Geer playing H C Curry. Lesley Ann Warren (minus
the Ann), appeared as Snookie
