Broadwat Show History
The original production of Stephen Sondheim's Company debuted
on Broadway at the
Alvin
Theater in April 1970. Despite not being very well received,
audiences appeared to enjoy the show, supporting it through a
705-performance run. Interestingly, some of the folks who gave it an
initial cold shoulder, soon followed public sentiment, warmed to the
show, and recognized it with 14
1971 Tony Award®
nominations. It took the honors as best musical with, among other,
Mr Sondheim recognized for score and Hal Prince for direction
Company was revived by the Roundabout in 1995 with a Scott
Ellis-directed production. The cast included Danny Burstein, Diana
Canova, Charlotte D'Amboise, Boyd Gaines, Jane Krakowski, LaChanze
and Debra Monk. The production was nominated for a
1996 Tony Award®
as best revival of a musical, as was Veanne Cox for best performance
by a featured actress
