Synopsis
Some say "Good riddance" when the leading lady of Robin Hood! A
New Musical dies during the show's opening night performance at
Boston's Colonial Theater
It turns out to be murder. Boston police Lieutenant Frank Cioffi
leads the investigation and also leads the remaining company members
in their efforts to restage the show despite dismal reviews. The
Lieutenant finds love. He also finds one of the show's producers
hung up in a curtain rope, a wounded actor, a dead stage manager and
a well-aimed falling sandbag
The Road to Broadway
The realities of life sometimes intrude on the fantasy that is
theater. Curtains was originally conceived by Peter Stone,
who passed away in April 2003 before finishing the show's book. John
Kander's long time partner, lyricist Fred Ebb, died in September
2004, followed by orchestrator Michael Gibson in July 2005
With a completed book by Rupert Holmes and some additional lyrics by
Messrs Holmes and Kander, the world premiere was at the
Center
Theatre Group's Ahmanson Theater in July 2006 with basically the
same principal cast that would open the production at the Hirschfeld |
