Synopsis

The Grey Gardens of the show's title refers to a property in Long Island's East Hampton where a mother and daughter (senior and junior), aunt and cousin to Jackie Kennedy, live a reclusive life of bickering squalor amidst the run down rooms of a mansion in which they examine their pasts

The Road to Broadway

Grey Gardens is based on the 1975 documentary film by David and Albert Maysles that told the story of the Beales as the mansion was being renovated

The stage production had its world premiere in February, 2006, in a critically and publicly acclaimed staging at Playwrights Horizons. The cast included Matt Cavenaugh, Christine Ebersole, Sara Gettelfinger (on leave from Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), Sarah Hyland, John McMartin, Michael Potts, Bob Stillman, Audrey Twitchell and Mary Louise Wilson
