Synopsis
"You may now kiss the bride." And so
the old man does. And so the spirit-switching comedy begins as Peter
leaves on his honeymoon with Rita. Or so he thinks

Prelude's Broadway premiere
was at the
Helen Hayes Theater on May 1, 1990. The
1991 Pulitzer Prize
winning play was on the boards for 440 performances. Timothy Hutton,
Mary-Louise Parker and Barnard Hughes led a cast that also included
Larry Bryggman, John Dossett and Debra Monk
In the Movies
Alec Baldwin and Meg Ryan starred in
the 1992 screen version directed by Norman Rene. Sydney Walker
played Julius (the Old Man), Ned Beatty and Patty Duke played Dr and
Mrs Boyle, and Stanley Tucci played Taylor. Debra Monk, who appeared
as Mrs Boyle in the original Broadway production, played Aunt
Dorothy for this go round. Mr Rene directed the play's 1988 world
premiere at the South
Coast Repertory, as well as its successful 1990 off-Broadway run
at the Circle Repertory and the transfer to the Helen Hayes. Mr
Baldwin also played Peter in the Circle Rep production
