Synopsis
We're in nineteenth century Ireland,
the small village of Baile Beag. A company of British army engineers
arrives to map the village in order to produce the Ordnance Survey
series of maps. One of their jobs involves anglicizing the Gaelic
place names. Lieutenant Yolland does this with the help of Owen, a
village native returning after a lengthy absence
Cultural allegiances are shifted.
Miscommunication begets confusion and conflict. A soldier falls in
love, shares a kiss, then disappears. A local flees as soldiers give
chase
And it goes on
