Synopsis
It's Jon Waters. It's Baltimore. It's
1954
Thomas Meehan and Mark O'Donnell from the
Hairspray
creative team are back with another early 1950s
growing-up-in-Baltimore tuner. This time around it's the gal with
the class and the "guitar-playing rebel" with a tear in his eye
You know you're in for a Water's
experience when the blurb uses the phrase "tickling her taffeta"
The Road to Broadway
Seattle's
5th
Avenue Theatre had the production on its schedule for a
pre-Broadway run February through March 2007. Citing lack of a
Broadway theater for the production to transfer to after the Seattle
run, "New York producing team and The 5th Avenue Theatre have agreed
to postpone the Seattle Cry-Baby debut until a Broadway venue
becomes available"
The show then had its world premiere
at
La Jolla Playhouse's Mandell Weiss Theater in a run from
November 6 through December 16, 2007
In the Movies
The 1990 John Waters film starred
Johnny Depp as Wade 'Cry-Baby' Walker. Also among the cast were
Susan Tyrell, Polly Bergen, Iggy Pop, Ricki Lake, Tracy Lords and
Troy Donahue
