Synopsis

Teddy has been off in America for six years. Upon returning to his London, now all-male family, they are surprised to find he is married and that his wife Ruth has three children. It readily becomes apparent that Ruth would not mind staying in London when Teddy returns to the States if she and the family can come to suitable "contract terms" for her gainful employment

Broadway Show History

The Homecoming made its Broadway debut at the Music Box Theater in January 1967. The production received six 1967 Tony® nominations and brought home four trophies: Paul Rogers and Ian Holm as best actor and best featured actor, Peter Hall for best direction, and the show as best play. The Roundabout revived it for a short run in 1991

In the Movies

Pinter also wrote the screenplay for the Peter Hall-directed 1973 film version. Mott Abrahams produced. The cast featured Paul Rogers as Max, Michael Jayston as Teddy, Vivien Merchant as Ruth, Ian Holm as Lenny, Terence Rigby as Joey and Cyril Cusack as Sam
