Synopsis
Childhood friends who both grow to be
successful writers, Kit and Milly at times are at mannerly
loggerheads with one another. Complications in their relationship
include Milly's daughter Diedre, ex-husband Preston and Kit's
relationship with a younger lover

Old Acquaintance first opened
on Broadway December 23, 1940 at the Morosco Theater. It split its
170-performance run between the Morosco and the
Broadhurst
Theater before closing at the latter on May 17, 1941. Jane Cowl
played Kit opposite Peggy Wood as Milly
In the Movies
Playwright Van Druten had a hand in
the screenplay for the 1943 screen version that starred Bette Davis
as Kit and Miriam Hopkins as Millie
In 1981, Jacqueline Bisset and
Candice Bergen starred as "Liz" and "Merry" in the George Cukor-directed
Rich and Famous with an adapted screenplay by Gerald Ayres.
Twenty-year-old Meg Ryan, in her first major film appearance, played
"Debby Blake" (Diedre Drake)
